Rigid organizational structures

In the second text this month, we will address rigid organizational structures, one of the factors that can contribute to the lack of innovation in organizations.
Rigid organizational structures are highly hierarchical or siloed, which can hinder the flow of information and collaboration between different departments or hierarchical levels.
One of the consequences is that it can prevent the existence of crossed seeds, which contribute to generating ideas necessary to sustain innovation at various levels.
Considering that innovation is an essential driver of organizational growth, these rigid structures contribute to a stagnation - or even contraction - of this growth, in the sense that expansion into new markets is imperative, as is creating new revenue streams or increasing the base of customers, all goals for which innovation is crucial.
"The most rigid structures, the most impervious to change, will collapse first." - Eckhart Tolle
A possible solution could be the creation of multifunctional teams, which encourage the exchange of ideas and perspectives between different departments.
In this sense, reducing structural rigidity and promoting this diversity of thought and exchanges can lead to more creative and diverse solutions and innovations.
However, obstacles to fluidity of this nature are expected to arise, which result from cultures resistant to change, within which employees and management are comfortable with the status quo.
To overcome this type of accommodation, one can choose to create a culture in which adaptability and continuous learning are valued, celebrating (and/or even rewarding) the success of innovative projects, while maintaining continuous communication about the benefits that a change of this nature provides to the entire organization, in the present and for the future.
Innovation is one of the key ingredients in promoting a culture of adaptability and flexibility, which allows organizations to respond - more effectively - to the changes and challenges of a constantly changing market.

It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
