In this fourth text this month, we will address poor meeting management, one of the factors that can contribute to poor communication in an organizational context.

Poorly conducted meetings can be characterized by not having clear agendas, objectives or follow-up actions, which contributes to wasting time and, furthermore, does not facilitate communication or effective decision-making.

As a result, inefficiencies are created through this poor communication, which result in higher operational costs. And why? Because there is a waste of time, additional supervision is required and also costs associated with correcting errors.

"As a leader, you must consistently drive effective communication. Meetings must be deliberate and intentional - your organizational rhythm should value purpose over habit and effectiveness over efficiency." - Chris Fussell

One possible solution will be to invest in training programs, more specifically investing in communication skills training for employees at all levels. Effective communication is a skill that can be developed and improved, something that benefits both individual employees and the organization collectively.

On this journey, towards improving organizational communication, it is important to be aware of resistance to change. Some employees - accustomed to certain communication styles or technologies - may resist changes introduced to improve communication, as they may maintain a preference for methods that are more familiar to them over new and potentially more effective methods.

Meetings and other structured communication formats contribute to improved adaptability because organizations, with strong communication practices, can adapt more quickly to changes and challenges, ensuring they remain resilient in the face of adversity.
