In this fourth – and final – text on this month's topic (overcommitment), we will look at another factor that can contribute to this excess; perfectionism.

Essentially, perfectionism can be described as the desire to perform all tasks to an unattainably high standard, which can lead to tasks taking longer than necessary, reducing the time available for other commitments and leading to overcommitment.

As a consequence, being overly committed can mean missing out on new opportunities that better align with personal or professional goals due to lack of time or energy.

"Healthy striving is self-focused: "How can I improve?" Perfectionism is other-focused: "What will they think?" ― Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection

One possible solution is to develop a support system, that is, having a network of friends, family or colleagues with whom you can share concerns, who can provide insights, ideas or solutions that you may not have previously considered. They can also offer practical support to ease the burden of commitments and responsibilities.

Pressure from peers, family or society, to be constantly busy or involved in different activities, can make it difficult to reduce commitments and constitute an obstacle that needs to be overcome.

Investing time and energy in reducing over-commitment contributes to better decision-making, because there is less pressure and more mental clarity, so you will have quality time to make better and more strategic choices, both in your personal and professional life.

Next month, we will start a new monthly topic, about which 5 texts will be produced.

It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
