During this month, we will address different dimensions of cultural misalignment in organizations, a factor that affects their collective performance. 4 short texts will be published on this topic (1 for each week) and, in this first contribution, we seek to look at one of the factors that may contribute to this problem; leadership and employee disconnection.

Leadership and employee disconnection is a situation where leadership's vision and expectations are not effectively communicated or embraced by employees, leading to confusion and a lack of direction.

As a consequence, there may be a decrease in employee engagement because they feel disconnected from the organization's culture. These disconnections can, in turn, lead to reduced productivity, a lack of initiative, and a reduced quality of work as a whole.

"The way your employees feel is the way your customers will feel. And if your employees don't feel valued, neither will your customers." - Sybil F. Stershic

If this occurs, a possible solution involves a different leadership exercise, which must be committed to the desired culture, acting as models, that is, leaders must demonstrate – themselves – the values and the behaviors they expect from employees, as a way of implementing and/or reinforcing a cultural change.

However, given the crucial role that leaders play in shaping and modelling the organization's culture, it is important that their behaviors are consistent, otherwise confusion among employees will persist, which will contribute to an environment of misalignment.

If employees feel that their values are aligned with those of the organization, they become more involved, motivated and committed to their work, and this high level of involvement leads to increased productivity, innovation and job satisfaction.

It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
