In the third text this month, we address the lack of experience, one of the factors that can contribute to the fear of failure.

Lack of experience is understood in this text to mean not having enough experience - or not being adequately prepared - to carry out a certain task, which can lead to fear of failure, caused by a perception of incompetence.

When there is a perception, with these contours, possible impacts - or consequences - are seen in decision-making processes, which can be severely harmed.

The fear of making a wrong decision - and consequently failing - can lead to indecision and paralysis, affecting a person's ability to make timely - and effective - decisions in personal and professional contexts.

"No experience is a cause of success or failure. We do not suffer from the shock of our experiences, so-called trauma - but we make out of them just what suits our purposes." - Alfred Adler

A possible solution could lie in the use of - consciously assumed - modeling processes, through a - proactive - search for testimonies from other people (with whom there is direct contact, on the recommendation of third parties or public figures) who have overcome identical challenges, allowing identify different alternatives that can be appropriately adapted to the characteristics, contexts and circumstances of those who face the aforementioned perception.

Another possible path could be found in mentoring processes, talking - formally or informally - with people who share stories, of their experiences, about how they overcame the fear of failing in different moments and circumstances, something that also has the potential to provide encouragement – and, sometimes, even an initial script, albeit adapted – so that the person feels capable of facing and overcoming their own fears.

Naturally, there are some very relevant obstacles in this type of fear that need to be taken into account and that influence – positively or negatively – each person.

One of them is related to the lack of a support context, that is, without a support network - or an environment - that encourages taking some risks and that looks at failure as part of continuous learning processes, people may find it more difficult to deal with the fear of failure in general, therefore, they may develop a belief that they may be alone dealing with all the consequences of their decisions, which can contribute to increasing their fear.

When it becomes possible to overcome - or circumvent - fears surrounding the fear of failure, this can trigger greater creativity and also innovation, due to the existence of a feeling of greater freedom, which can help to promote quite different contexts, within which creative thinking flourishes, and, equally, a greater propensity to take risks and think outside the box can be developed.

Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
