During this next month, we will cover different dimensions of how poor communication affects organizational achievements. 5 short texts will be published on this topic (1 for each week) and, in this first contribution, we seek to look at one of the factors that may contribute to this gap; the lack of clarity.
In an organizational context, lack of clarity can be characterized by messages that are vague, incomplete, or missing essential details, which can cause confusion and misunderstandings, preventing employees from completing tasks effectively.
Given these circumstances, there is a decrease in productivity, due to misunderstandings or lack of information, generating errors, extra work or rework and delays. In other words, employees spend valuable time seeking clarification rather than completing tasks efficiently.
"Leadership is more about clarity than it is about control." - Mark Goulston
A possible solution would be to organize regular updates and meetings, that is, hold regular meetings to update team members on company news, project progress and other relevant information. It is essential that these meetings have a clear agenda and purpose in order to make them effective and not just procedural.
It is essential to work around the time constraints that characterize fast-paced environments, where finding time for adequate and thoughtful communication can be a challenge, leading to rushed or incomplete information exchanges.
Resolving the lack of clarity has a direct impact on increasing productivity, by making communication clear and concise, which helps to speed up workflows, reduce errors and minimize the need for extra work or rework.
Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
