In this second text this month, we will address inconsistency, one of the factors that can contribute to poor communication in an organizational context.

Inconsistent messaging, from different levels of management or across departments, can create confusion about priorities, processes and expectations.

These inconsistencies and misunderstandings (in communication) can generate conflicts between team members and between employees and management, leading to a toxic work environment.

"One of the great things about Shakespeare is that his characters are inconsistent, and that's something I think makes him a writer above most writers because inconsistency is what we, as people, are full of. We maybe don't see it in ourselves too often, but we are inconsistent." - Jeremy Irons

A possible solution will be to encourage interaction between departments and teams. Promoting collaboration and communication between different departments can be boosted through joint projects, interdepartmental meetings and even social events. Breaking down these silos can produce more innovative solutions as well as a stronger sense of community.

However, even with the encouragement of this type of practices, it is essential to be careful with the lack of clarity and consistency in communication, particularly in the use of ambiguous words or expressions and inconsistent messages between departments (which may have different languages, given its specificities, themes, desires and concerns), as the absence of these precautions can lead to confusion and misinterpretations.

When communication is effective, it becomes one of the elements that contributes to stronger team dynamics, because it promotes a feeling of trust and collaboration between team members (inter and intra departments), which improves team work and reduces the potential for conflict.
