In this second text of the current month, we will address the fear of judgment, one of the factors that can contribute to the fear of failure.

Fear of judgment means that a person worries - excessively - about what others will think - or say - if they fail and this can include the fear of disappointing others, being embarrassed or facing criticism.

This fear can result in a drive for perfectionism, and while striving for perfection is not inherently bad, an unhealthy level of perfectionism, driven by fear of judgment, can lead to a person being dissatisfied and never feeling good enough, regardless of their achievements.

"Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others, we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

A possible solution will be for the person to seek feedback, that is, to encourage the search for constructive contributions, not as criticism, but as a valuable tool for learning and improvement. Learning to see feedback as something useful and not personal can help reduce the fear associated with judgment.

However, it is necessary to pay attention to cultural and social pressures, particularly in cultures - or societies - where failure is stigmatized and success is highly valued, where the pressure, to avoid failure at all costs, can be immense and intense. This social expectation can cause people to develop an even more acute fear of judgment.

When people manage to relativize the fear of judgment (through seeking constructive feedback or any other mechanism that proves to be effective for each person), it becomes possible to achieve higher levels of personal satisfaction.

Persisting in achieving goals, without a constant fear of judgment, positively influences personal satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment, which contributes to personal happiness and fulfillment in broader terms, whether in relation to specific goals or with regard to the general attitude towards life.

Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
