Failure to adapt communication styles

In this second text this month, we will address the failure to adapt communication styles, one of the factors that can contribute to ineffective communication in organizations.
Not recognizing and adapting to the diverse preferences and communication needs of different people can make effective communication difficult, because each person has different styles, according to which they prefer to receive – or provide – information.
When this adaptation is not taken into account, a potential consequence is the low motivation of employees, because they feel uninformed or misunderstood and will probably suffer a decrease in morale and satisfaction at work, which can lead to lack of interest and high rates of turnover.
"First
learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak." - Epictetus
A possible solution is to define tailored communication, that is, recognize the different preferences and needs of interlocutors and adapt the style - and means - of communication to different groups within the organization, whether through visual presentations, written documents or face-to-face conversations.
As there are no solutions that perfectly combine individual and collective needs, it is necessary to count on resistance to change, particularly from some employees, who may resist new methods of communication or changes in organizational culture, which can lead to their lack of involvement with the communication initiatives that the organization wants to implement.
The benefits of greater adaptability can be very
significant and relevant; Organizations with strong communication practices can
adapt more quickly to changes and challenges, as they acquire the ability to
efficiently disseminate and discuss new information, strategies and plans.
Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
