In this third text this month, we will address emotional barriers, one of the factors that can contribute to ineffective communication in organizations.

And why are these barriers relevant in the life of organizations? Because prejudices, emotions and personal filters can hinder the judgment and interpretation of messages, which can contribute to ineffective communication.

And, if there is ineffective communication, stress and anxiety set in, because ambiguity and uncertainty - resulting from this ineffectiveness - can lead to an increased presence of these factors among employees, affecting their mental health and general well-being.

Assuming that any organization has people, who are very different from each other, with different prejudices, emotions or filters, there is a certain inevitability regarding the possibility of misinterpretations or judgments resulting from communication.

"We are not rational creatures who feel; we are emotional creatures who rationalize." - Devdutt Pattanaik

Therefore, a possible solution could be to create conflict resolution mechanisms, based on clear procedures for resolving them, with a focus on emphasizing open communication, understanding and problem solving. This way, there is an incentive for employees to address disagreements in a more constructive way.

Still, it is necessary to account for the existence of deficient listening skills. Communication is a two-way process and a lack of active listening can lead to misunderstandings. Active listening skills are often undervalued and underdeveloped.

Effective communication promotes better understanding among employees and between different organizational levels, reducing the potential for conflict and facilitating faster resolution when disagreements arise.

Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
