Control issues

In this fourth text of the current month, we will address control issues, one of the factors that can contribute to the fear of failure.
The scope of the control issues addressed here relates to the fact that there are people who feel the need to control all outcomes and may develop the belief that they should be able to handle everything perfectly, which can lead to fear of situations where outcomes are uncertain.
Some of the consequences of this type of need and/or belief is the increase in unhappiness, dissatisfaction and the feeling that the person is not living up to their potential, in which the fear of dealing with the uncertainty of the results causes a significant – and negative – impact on the person's quality of life.
"The only thing you - sometimes - have control over, is perspective. You don't have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it." - Chris Pine
One possible solution might be to celebrate small victories, moments during which the person recognizes small achievements, which can help build confidence because it can contribute to shifting the focus from fear of failure to a mindset of recognizing progress.
Even so, it is necessary to be aware of the presence of a potentially very significant barrier, constituted by a natural fear of the unknown that people may feel, which creates difficulties to get out of their comfort zones, choosing – deliberately – to face unpredictable results.
On the other hand, there may also be a difficulty with additional contours, within which uncertainty is – mentally and emotionally – associated with trying new things, a combination that can make the fear of failure even more pronounced.
When faced with similar factors (as a whole or each of them in isolation), the fear of failure can lead people to behaviors such as procrastination and/or avoidance.
The solution proposed here or others that adjust to the characteristics, contexts and circumstances of each person, may increase the probability that people will feel more likely to face different situations and/or tasks head-on, gradually internalizing that it is not possible to control all outcomes, which would contribute to greater productivity and better performance in various aspects of their journeys, with a positive impact on the quality of their lives.
Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
