In this fourth – and final – text of this month, we will address black and white thoughts, one of the factors that can contribute to a negative mindset.
In general, black and white thinking is characterized by seeing things in extremes, without recognizing the middle ground or gray areas. This approach—all or nothing, one extreme or its opposite—can limit the ability to see the complexity and nuances in various situations.
The consequences are felt in relationships with friends, family, spouses, children or colleagues. Seeing the world and life only through extremes produces negativity, which can lead to misunderstandings, reduced empathy and communication difficulties, as other people may find it difficult to deal with this simplistic dichotomy.

are all somewhere - or the other - a little grey, not black and white. We have
our imperfections." - Kriti

One possible solution is to seek some type of support. Connecting with friends, family or other people closest to you can provide encouragement, different perspectives and a feeling of belonging, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation and negativity, producing different ways of looking at reality and its different nuances.
We have to adopt some caution about the people we surround ourselves with because they can have a significant impact on our mindset. Being around others who often engage in extreme, negative, or pessimistic thinking can reinforce our limiting thoughts.
When it becomes possible to escape the dichotomy of extremes (or understand the benefits of shades of gray between black and white), there is a positivity that tends to be contagious, which makes interactions with other people more enjoyable and rewarding. People who maintain a positive mindset tend to be more empathetic, patient and supportive, which can strengthen their relationships with those around them and those they interact with, both in their personal and professional lives.
Next month, we will start a set of articles
under a new theme.
The
video, on this topic, will be available on our YouTube and TikTok channels on
Sunday, September 1st.
Author's note: this text expresses a personal perspective framed within some parameters, it is not a scientific article, of a medical, prescriptive or binding nature. It is also important to note that it was not intended to be an exhaustive analysis, in the future there will be new texts that will address other ways of looking at these same topics.
