Holistic Coaching

"Health is a state of complete mental, social and physical well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." - World Health Organization, 1948

Holistic health is a field of study and philosophy that addresses all parts of a Human Being, including the mind, body, emotional state and spirit. It considers each dimension and the links between them as determinants, as they can affect the daily life of each person.

From a holistic health perspective, being healthy is not just the absence of disease; to be healthy is to have a perfectly balanced body and mind.

Holistic practitioners advocate the idea that small adjustments to parts of a person's life - for example, changes in diet - can significantly alter other components of their life, namely motivation or job satisfaction.

Holistic health has been around for thousands of years, although it has only recently been applied to the world of coaching. It has its roots in Chinese philosophy and medicine and references to holistic thinking and health can be found in the work of some Greek philosophers, namely Hippocrates, Pythagoras or Aristotle in the 4th century.

The basic idea is to think of the human being as a system composed of multiple parts, some internal and some external. Holistic coaching looks for answers by considering the different parts and the way they interact with each other.

"Good health is not something we can buy. However, it can be an extremely valuable savings account." - Anne Wilson Schaef
