Coaching's Professional Standards and Ethics

This is the Code of Ethics proposed by the Portuguese Society of Professional Coaching and which all its members undertake to comply with.
I will honor the coaching profession
- I will not make any false or misleading statements regarding the services I offer as a coach (whether for individuals or companies) or the scope of the coaching profession
- I will be aware of the existence of personal issues that may conflict, hinder, interfere or impair my performance as a professional coach and, if it appears to be appropriate, I will suspend or terminate my coaching relationship with the client
- I will recognize that it is the coachee who, through his effort and contribution, achieves his goals. I will not credit myself with the client's journey and its successes
- I will keep records of my work as a coach, ensuring their security and privacy. I will delete any records if the customer requires it or when, in conscience, I recognize a danger to their privacy
- I will maintain confidentiality regarding all customer and sponsor information
- I will establish a clear agreement on how coaching information will be exchanged between the coach, client and sponsor (where applicable) and will always abide by the terms of that agreement
- I will seek to avoid conflicts of interest, even if they are potential, and I will report them when they arise, even if it means ending the coaching relationship
- I will not derive any personal, professional or monetary benefit or benefit from the coaching relationship, other than the remuneration agreed in the written contract or oral agreement
I will have a professional conduct in the relationship with customers and sponsors (sponsors are organizations that hire coaching services for their employees)
- I will act with integrity and honesty throughout the professional relationship I will have with the client and sponsors
- I will never have any intimate or personal involvement with the client(s) or sponsor(s) during the coaching relationship
- I will have clear agreements or contracts with my clients and sponsors, clearly explaining the terms of service provision and coaching relationship. I will honor all agreements or contracts entered into in the context of professional coaching relationships
- I will not give my potential customers or sponsors information or suggestions that I believe to be misleading, false or harmful to them
- I will be careful, before starting the coaching process, to carefully explain to my client and/or sponsors the nature of coaching, how the process takes place, the definition of responsibilities, the terms of confidentiality and other information that is relevant to ensure their perfect clarification. I will also look at the rules, procedures and financial agreements contained in the coaching contract, as well as the agreement on the type, duration and regularity of the sessions. I will ensure that the customer and/or sponsor understand the nature of the information
- I will respect the client's perceptions, learning style and way of being, continuously supporting him to explore opportunities essential to the established goals
- I will not make any misleading or false statements about my customer or sponsor
- I will respect the parties' right to terminate the coaching relationship at any time during the process, subject to the terms that have been set out in the contract
- I will be attentive to indications that the client may not be feeling benefited by our coaching relationship and, if I understand, in conscience, that he would benefit more from the services of another coach or using a process other than coaching, give I will give you that indication

- As a Professional Coach, I know and agree to fulfill my ethical obligations to my clients and managers, colleagues and the general public
- I am committed to complying with all items of the Code of Ethics and practicing them with all those to whom I provide my professional services as a coach
